Hello World, with Britt and Axel aboard, is a beautiful new Sunbeam 53 with a home port in Germany.  Bagels are a favorite aboard Carina and we'll surely be trying this recipe soon!

5-6 cups flour

2 1/2 teaspoons salt

1 pkg dry yeast (2 1/2 t)

1 1/4 cup warm water

3 teaspoons sugar or honey

5 teaspoons oil

2 eggs

5-6 qt boiling water

In  large bowl, mix 2 cup flour with salt and yeast.  Stir in warm water and sugar.  Add oil and eggs and beat with mixer until very smooth.  Add remaining flour one cup at a time to make a soft workable dough.  Turn onto floured surface and knead.  Place in lightly oiled bowl.  Cover and let rise.  Punch down and knead a little.  Divide into 12 balls.  With each ball, flatten slightly and stick thumb through center to form bagel.  Placed on floured surface and let rise again for about 45 minutes.  Boil water and gently slide bagels in one at a time.  Let boil for 1/2 minute on each side.  Remove from water and place on a greased cookie sheet.  Bake in preheated oven at 375° F (191 C) increasing to 400° F (204 C) until golden brown.

You can add toppings after they have been boiled by brushing with beaten egg whites, then add salt, sesame seeds, garlic, onion, etc.
